DiveHive for diversTrust and privacy
Your dives, your data, in plain words.
What DiveHive does with your waivers, medical answers and logbook, who can see them, and what happens when you leave. No badges we have not earned.
Five promises to divers
In plain words.
- Your logbook is yours. You choose what to share. A shared dive card opens only for people with its link, and you can revoke it.
- Verified, not invented. A dive counts as verified only when a guide has signed it. Everything else is marked as your own note.
- Privacy by default. Analytics is off until you accept it, and we never record what you type. Public pages show only what you choose to make public, and nothing until you do.
- Safety information, honestly. Dive sites show hazards and emergency information where we have them. Forecasts are a guide, never a guarantee, and the dive shop decides what is safe today.
- Every source named. Species names from WoRMS and GBIF, photos from iNaturalist under CC licences with credit, weather from Open-Meteo, tides from FES2022.
Who sees what
Everyone sees what they need, and no more.
A shop sees what it needs to take you diving. Buddies and the public see only what you choose to show, section by section.
- The shop you dive with. Owners and admins see your waiver and medical record for their shop. Staff and your guide see the status only: signed, clearance needed or expired.
- Buddies and the public. At first only your buddies see your basic profile. Everything else is for you alone until you change it.
- Never on the Board. Medical answers, gear sizes and notes are never shown on the Board, the shop’s display for the day’s trips.
Medical answers never reach the Board, notifications or analytics. Until you change it, only your buddies see your basic profile.
Waivers and medical
One shop at a time, never pooled.
Each shop has its own waiver and its own medical form, filled in fresh for that shop. No medical record travels with you from shop to shop.
- The shop owns the record. The shop is responsible for your waiver and medical answers. DiveHive processes them on the shop’s behalf and uses them for nothing else.
- A sealed copy for you. A signed waiver is a PDF with a digital seal, and you get a copy in the app. Any change afterwards would break the seal.
- A doctor’s clearance, if needed. If a medical answer is a yes, the shop asks for a physician’s clearance. You upload it as a small file, for that shop.
- Medical stays private. Medical answers never appear on the Board, in notifications or in analytics.
Your logbook
Your logbook is yours, and your guide vouches for it.
DiveHive fills in your copy of each dive. You can add to it and change it, and every change shows.
- Verified by the guide. A dive counts as verified when your guide has signed it. Everything else is marked as your own entry.
- Edits stay visible. If you change a dive fact, your guide is asked to confirm it. Without an answer it stays marked as edited by you.
- Take it with you. Export your logbook any time, as JSON or as a PDF.
Deleting your data
You can leave, and take your data with you.
Export what you want to keep, then delete your account from the app. This is what that means.
- What goes. Your account, your profile and your own copies of your logs and documents are deleted.
- What shops keep. Shops keep the records they hold about you, such as signed waivers and medical forms, for the retention period each shop has set. They are not part of your account.
- What stays in group logs. A group log your guide wrote keeps an anonymous entry for you, so the record of the trip stays whole.
Where our data comes from.
Every source is named, with its licence where it has one.
Marine life
- Names and classification: WoRMS and GBIF
- Depth ranges and where species occur: OBIS and GBIF
- Photos: openly licensed photos from iNaturalist observers, each with its author and licence
- Descriptions: Wikipedia summaries, credited and linked
- Sightings logged by DiveHive divers
Ocean figures
- Forecast guidance, never a guarantee. Your dive shop decides what is safe today.
- Credit: E.U. Copernicus Marine Service.
Weather and tides
- Weather and sea state: Open-Meteo
- Tides: computed from the FES2022 model
- Storm warnings link to the official bulletin and never cancel a trip by themselves
Minors and guardians.
Junior divers dive with a guardian’s consent, and some features stay switched off for them.
Accounts and consent
- Under 13, a guardian manages the profile and there is no login of the junior’s own
- From 13, a junior can have their own login if a guardian invites them
- A guardian signs each shop’s waiver and medical form, and the junior co-signs from 13
- Under 16 a guardian approves every booking request; from 16 the junior books and the guardian is told
Always, under 18
- No community groups, messages or buddy matching with strangers, and no public profile
- No personalised recommendations and no upsell prompts
- Guardians keep getting safety notices, such as trip changes, storm flags and “back on shore”
- At 18 the guardians’ access ends with a notice; the logs and certifications stay with the diver

Questions about trust.
More answers are in the FAQ.
Who owns my waiver and medical answers?
The shop you signed them for. DiveHive processes them on the shop’s behalf, keeps a sealed copy for you and uses them for nothing else.
Can my guide read my medical answers?
No. The shop’s owner and admins see the full record. Staff and your guide see only the status: signed, clearance needed or expired.
Does my medical information follow me to other shops?
No. Every shop asks its own questions, fresh each time. There is no medical record shared between shops.
What happens to my data when I delete my account?
Your account, profile and your own copies of logs and documents are deleted. Shops keep the records they hold, such as signed waivers, for their own retention period, and a group log keeps an anonymous entry for you.
Can I take my logbook with me?
Yes. Export it any time as JSON or as a PDF, from your logbook or from your data settings.
Where do the species and ocean data come from?
Species names and ranges come from WoRMS, OBIS and GBIF, photos from openly licensed iNaturalist observations with credit, and descriptions from credited Wikipedia summaries. Ocean figures are forecast guidance, with credit to the E.U. Copernicus Marine Service.
