DiveHive

DiveHive for diversFAQ

Questions divers ask.

Short, plain answers. Search, or pick a group. More on trust and privacy.

Account and cost

Is DiveHive free for divers?

Yes. Divers never pay for the logbook, discovery, buddies or clubs. Dive shops pay for their own software. See what is included in the diver features.

When does the app open?

We have not set a date. Join the waitlist and we write once when it opens.

Do I need an account to browse?

No. Shops, sites and trips are public and open to everyone. You need a free account to follow a shop, send a request or keep your logbook.

Can I delete my account?

Yes, whenever you like. Your personal data is deleted. Records a shop holds, such as a signed waiver, stay with that shop under its own retention rules, and a group log keeps an anonymous entry. Details on trust and privacy.

I run a dive shop. Where do I go?

Shop software lives on the DiveHive website.

Discover and booking

What can I use today?

The directory of dive shops, sites and trips, the species guide and the ocean conditions pages are open to everyone, without an account.

Is a request the same as a booking?

A request asks for a place. The shop approves or declines it, and some shops confirm straight away. You see the status in the app and get a notice when it changes. More in discover and book.

What if a trip needs a certification I do not have?

The trip shows what it needs. If you do not meet a hard requirement, you cannot send a request, and you are pointed to a course that would help.

Can I cancel or change a trip?

Yes. Until the shop’s cutoff you can cancel or move to another trip of that shop yourself. After it, you ask the shop to cancel. Each shop sets its own cancellation policy as text.

Can I follow shops and invite my buddies?

Yes. Follow a shop to see its new public trips on your Today screen, connect with buddies and invite them to a trip. What a buddy sees follows your privacy settings.

Waivers and medical

Is my medical form shared between shops?

No. Waiver and medical are per shop, and each shop owns its record. You answer the medical questions fresh for every shop, and no shop can see what you answered for another. See passport and paperwork.

Who sees my medical answers?

The shop’s owner and admins. Other staff see only whether your paperwork is signed, needs clearance or has expired. Medical answers never appear on the Board, in notifications or in analytics.

Do I get a copy of what I signed?

Yes. Each signed waiver and medical comes with a sealed PDF copy in the app.

What does my diver passport share with a shop?

Only the sections you choose: identity and certifications, an experience summary, gear and preferences, emergency contact and insurance status. Experience is shared as counts, never other shops’ names, sites or dates. Medical forms are never included. You can turn a section or a whole shop off at any time.

What if a shop is not on DiveHive?

You can send a passport PDF, or a read-only link that works for 24 hours, with the sections you choose. What you entered yourself is marked as self-declared.

Can a junior diver use DiveHive?

Yes. A linked guardian signs the waiver and medical for each shop and manages what is shared. At 18 the account is handed over to the diver.

Logbook

Who can verify a dive?

Only the guide who led it. When your guide signs the group log, your personal log is verified. Dives you add yourself are labelled as your own entries. See logbook and achievements.

Can I edit my log?

Yes. Your gear, gas, weights, notes and own sightings are yours to change. If you change the site, time or depth, your guide is asked to confirm, and until they do the log is marked as edited by you.

Can I log dives I did without DiveHive?

Yes. Add them as your own entries and set the number your numbering starts from. They count in your totals and are never shown as verified.

Can I take my logbook with me?

Yes. Export it as a PDF or as JSON whenever you like.

Species and conditions

Where does the marine life data come from?

Names and classification come from WoRMS, records from OBIS and GBIF, descriptions from Wikipedia with credit, and photos from iNaturalist observers under CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA licences, each with its credit. Sightings come from DiveHive dives. See species and ocean data.

Where do the ocean conditions come from?

Forecasts come from Open-Meteo and tides are computed from the FES2022 model. They are a guide, not a safety guarantee: ask the dive shop about today’s conditions.

Will a storm warning cancel my trip?

No. A warning flags the trip and links to the official bulletin. Your shop decides whether the trip goes ahead and tells you.

What is shared with science, and who sees it?

Only what you agree to share, and only as anonymous totals. It never names you, your shop or your companions. You can change your mind at any time.

Privacy and data

Is my logbook private?

Yes. Your logbook is yours. Public pages never show your dives, you choose what to share, and a dive card can only be opened by people who have its link. You can revoke that link.

Who sees my location?

Only the search uses it. Near me reads your phone’s location for that one query, and it is not stored.

What do you track?

Only necessary cookies are set until you accept analytics, and we never record what you type. Read more on trust and privacy.

Where are the legal texts?

The legal texts are in English and live on the DiveHive website, for example the privacy notice.

The app

Which phones will the app run on?

The iOS and Android apps arrive with launch. Join the waitlist and we write once when they open.

Which languages and units are supported?

Ten languages at launch. Depths, temperatures and distances follow your choice of metric or imperial units, and times show in the dive site’s own time zone.

Does the app work without signal?

Your dives, your logbook and your check-in QR are on your phone, and anything you write offline syncs when you are back online. Looking up shops and live conditions needs a connection.

How do I reach a person?

Write to support@divehive.app and a person answers. There is no phone line.
